The majority of people believe Mandarin is difficult to learn. But it is not as difficult as most people think. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are the four skills you need to gain to be fluent in any language. Over the next few months I will be posting some useful tips for beginners.
Sounds are the basis for all languages. 70% of information comes from listening. Listening is the first step when you learn Mandarin. There are four main tones in Mandarin. Flat tone, rising tone, falling and rising tone and falling tone. One more tone which is called the neutral tone, short and mild. By adjusting the position of your tongue in your mouth correctly will help you to make the tones correctly. If you have access to a Chinese TV channel then try listening to the news, or local Chinese people chatting and or watch a Chinese movie, they are all good methods. Then keep recording your own sound and playing it back to yourself until it sounds correct.
